How to Register an IRC Channel

Channel registration is available on networks with ChanServ. EFnet does not have ChanServ — on EFnet, channel ownership is maintained through Eggdrop bots.

Step 1: Join the Channel

/join #yourchannel

Step 2: Register With ChanServ

/msg ChanServ REGISTER #yourchannel

Step 3: Set Channel Modes

/mode #yourchannel +nt

Common modes: +n (no external messages), +t (ops only change topic), +m (moderated), +i (invite only)

Step 4: Add Operators

/msg ChanServ FLAGS #yourchannel nickname +o

EFnet Without ChanServ

On EFnet, use an Eggdrop bot to maintain channel operator status. The bot holds ops permanently and auto-ops trusted users. TrustNetwork24 shell accounts are ideal for hosting Eggdrop bots.
